Since the dawning of rock n’ roll, our love affair with cars has played a major role as a topic in songwriting. The hot rod culture of the ‘50s and ‘60s needed a soundtrack, and from there, the rest was history. You don’t have to look far for singles about cars from The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and other one-hit wonders from the early days. Here are a few that might not immediately come to mind in the pantheon of songs on wheels, but are nonetheless great.

In honor of the Super Bowl, it’s time to salute the time-honored and horrible idea of athletes, fans and “musicians” coming together to ignite their team to glory. It seems no one is content leaving music to those that can actually perform it, thus we have the following five songs. Though this is by no means a comprehensive list, here are some songs that are particularly hilarious in a completely unintended way. (Noticeably absent is “The Super Bowl Shuffle” because it actually is a piece of songwriting genius.)
“Silver and Black …

Cold weather got you down? If the recent cold snap has you questioning if you actually live in Florida and your cabin fever has reached a critical level, you should at least have a soundtrack to accompany you. So throw a few logs on the fire, make some hot cider and be sure to add your favorite whiskey. At noon Jan. 20, President-elect Barack Obama will officially be sworn in as the 44th president of the U.S. The official theme for the 2009 inauguration is “Renewing America’s Promise.” But slogans like this are a dime a dozen in a campaign, and they should be ignored. Instead, we should focus on the really important issues like what song will be played at the inauguration. There are rumors that horrible Paul Rodgers and Queen song will be played, but here are five better suggestions to get Obama’s first term in …

Welsh septet Los Campesinos! – an obvious misnomer loosely translated as “farmers” or “peasants” –
will perform at Jacksonville venue Jack Rabbits Jan. 19 in support of its latest album “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed.”
The album marks the second full-length (though the band doesn’t acknowledge it as such) album the band released in 2008, hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed underground smash-hit debut “Hold on Now, Youngster…,” which featured the singles “You! Me! Dancing!” and “International TweeXcore nderground.” But the 32-minute, 10-track mini-album seems too solid a …

1. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Season four might be the best season yet. Featuring episodes like “Who Pooped the Bed?,” “The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis” and season finale “The Nightman Cometh,” the gang from Paddy’s Pub certainly outdid itself. The ability to self-deprecate with dark and always-controversial humor, “It’s Always Sunny” has cemented itself as the funniest show on cable.

Unlike Christmas songs, which flood malls and living rooms with mediocrity for what seems like months, there are very few New Year’s related songs out there. Of course there’s the classic “Auld Lang Syne,” but it was recorded in the late 1700s. Here’s a few New Year’s songs that weren’t recorded before the Civil War to get 2009 started on the right foot.
