The second annual Garbage on the Green event brought out 71 volunteers Nov. 19 to revive cleanliness on campus. Volunteers worked from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. picking up 115.3 pounds of trash off campus grounds before beginning the collection and auditing process. Approximately 190 dancers showed up for the Children’s Miracle Network-sponsored Dance Marathon which took place at the UNF Arena Nov. 21 and 22. The event benefited patients at the Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital and Shands. After 18 hours of learning dances from various local instructors, playing games and hearing benefiting families speak, the total amount raised: $19,096.35, was revealed to participants. UNF contracted Giddens Security Corporation to patrol the parking lots in the evenings in response to a recent robbery on campus, UPD officials said. Two female students were mugged in Lot 18 after a sporting event in October. They adhered to precautions UPD suggests – using the buddy system and taking the shuttle instead of walking late at night. The grand opening ceremony of the Brooks College of Health addition was Oct. 10, which marked the 20-year anniversary of the original College of Health building. The addition opened Aug. 25, almost two decades after the first building. Approximately 200 people attended the ceremony including UNF faculty and medical staff, nursing students and employees of the Mayo Clinic. Full story
