Excited, proud to be a Republican

Dear Editor,
Last Wednesday, I picked up the new Spinnaker fully prepared to be as infuriated as my fellow Republicans who called to warn me of Fatima Hussein’s letter to the editor.
I must confess I found Ms. Hussein’s entire letter, from title to closing sentence, to be utterly
laughable.
The title of the letter, “It’s a presidential rally, not a party,” defies understanding.
Perhaps Democrat rallies are rather boring and staid affairs, but Republican rallies are parties.
We play loud music, we put up tons of decorations, candidates give rousing speeches, we cheer loudly, we all have an amazing time and yes, some us even paint our chests.
We Republicans do all of this, not only because we’re excited to vote for McCain and Palin, but also because we are excited to be Republicans.
What excites us is personal liberty, individual freedom of choice, a strong national defense and a limited, non-intrusive federal government. I realize Democrats must be baffled by our campaign’s excitement about the issues since the apoplectic excitement for their campaign isn’t about their issues – or lack thereof – but rather about their candidate’s well-developed cult of personality.
Ms. Hussein’s assertion that many UNF students have “secretly held beliefs” that UNF is a “podunk commuter school from the South” simply reveals her personal bias against both Southerners and Republicans whom she views as “loud-mouthed ignoramuses.” One also wonders how Ms. Hussein is privy to the “secret beliefs” of other students.
I could not be more proud to be the president of the College Republicans. The students who make up my organization are hard-working, educated, decent and passionate people who love their country and respect others. We pride ourselves on respecting the individual, instead of stereotyping others who we’ve never met.
Robert Foster

Nicely done!
Bravo Robbie! Thanks for clearing the air for us - much like what Gov Sarah Palin had to do so many times with Senator Biden!
