with 2,000 supporters at the Jacksonville Fair Grounds. McCain is likely to speak about the
economy and the war in Iraq.
• Sen. Barack Obama detailed his plan to strengthen the education system Sept. 9 and
charged that the Bush administration’s “failure to act has put our nation in jeopardy.”
Obama called for the creation of an “Innovative Schools Fund” to help school districts
develop a “portfolio of successful public school types,” including charters and nonprofit
schools.
• WomenCount, “a group co-founded by top Hillary fund-raiser Susie Tompkins Buell,” the
founder of Esprit and now a full-time philanthropist, recently defended Gov. Sarah Palin.

Rosemary Camposano, the group’s communications director.
• Congressman Ron Paul has scheduled a press conference in the Ball Room at the National
Press Club Sept. 10. Dr. Paul will announce his intentions for the fall presidential election
