Senator removed from SG meeting

Senate President Brandon Eady called Sen. Robert Foster out of order during the Sept. 29 Student Government Senate meeting and had him removed from
the chambers.

The debate began during the first reading of Foster’s proposed bills, two amendments to Title VI concerning election penalties and campaign financing.

Foster motioned to have a bill move to second reading, and Eady refused.

Sen. Joe Huskey, the elections, selections and appointments chair, moved to send the legislation to the ESAC committee. After a roll call vote of 10-20, the bill remained in open debate.

Foster motioned to move the bill to second reading again, and Eady objected.

“I didn’t want to throw it out and have a 40-person committee meeting,” Eady said. “We needed more time to think about the legislation, seeing that time was not an issue, due to the legislation’s effective date was not until Jan. 1.”

But two-thirds of the Senate wanted to continue discussing the bill, Foster said.

“Sen. Eady refused to hear the motion,” Foster said. “When I then accused Eady of political bias and not doing his job as an elected leader and ignoring his duty as a senator, he then declared me out
of order.”

But Eady said he was acting in the best interest of the Senate.
