June bomb scare made public

2 July 2009

Graffiti was found in Building 50 that said the building was going to blow up July 14, UPD Chief John Dean said.

JSO Bomb Squad and the FBI are assisting UNF in the investigation but it is uncertain why July 14 was picked as the day.

UPD will have an elevated role around Building 50 on the morning of July 14, even though Dean said, “there is no credible threat.”

Dean emphasized the necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and staff.

The graffiti was found in mid-June but the situation was not made public because of the ongoing investigation. The graffiti also threatened three specific faculty members who are associated with Building 50.

At this point in the investigation, there are no suspects and Dean refused to speculate whether it could have been a student.

The graffiti looked to have been written with a magic marker.
