Osprey Radio Presents: Surfer Blood & Gospel Music – January 8, 2012

Osprey Radio, the University of North Florida’s radio station, will showcase bands Surfer Blood and Gospel Music at a free indie-rock concert Sunday, Jan. 8.

The doors to the Ballroom in the Student Union (Room 3703/Building 58 West) open at 7 p.m. for light complimentary refreshments, and the bands start performing at 8 p.m.

Andrew Landis, station manager, says that both bands are on the brink of worldwide fame. Pitchfork awarded Surfer Blood’s 2010 debut “Best New Music” status, and Rolling Stone called the South Florida band’s tune “Floating Vibes” one of the 50 best songs of 2010. Gospel Music is the side project of Black Kids bassist Owen Holmes.

“We’re putting this on for students at UNF to let them know we’re here – but not only them, for the rest of Jacksonville, as well,” says Landis. “We want the community to know we’re an indie music resource.”

A primary goal of the concert is to reach listeners who may never have tuned into college radio and to encourage student participation during the first week of classes.

Osprey Radio streams on its website, http://www.ospreyradio.com, and on campus cable, Channel 171.
