The UNF men’s basketball team is receiving a dose of long-awaited positive attention heading into a Jan. 8 game against A-Sun Conference rival Florida Gulf Coast.
  The Ospreys recently went on a tear, winning five games in a row, a feat that they haven’t achieved since the 2003-2004 season.
  “Our players are finally starting to trust each other,” said head coach Matt Driscoll during the streak.
  But despite the success, the Ospreys were unable to defeat Mercer Jan. 4 to stay undefeated at home.

First-year UNF head coach Matthew Driscoll, announced the signing of the first UNF recruit since the program has reached full Division I status. David Jeune, a 6-7 power forward from Okeechobee High School, will be looked to for help in scoring and rebounds.

Just three weeks after releasing men’s head basketball coach Matt Kilcullen, UNF Director of Athletics Lee Moon announced April 5 Baylor assistant coach Matthew Driscoll,44, will become the fourth head coach of UNF men’s basketball.

As UNF looks forward to building a future with a winning basketball tradition they may want to take comfort in a fellow A-Sun Conference team’s loss.

UNF Athletic Director Lee Moon announced March 16 that UNF Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt Kilcullen will step down from his current position to take on a new role within the administration of UNF athletics.

After visting ESPN’s website on December 17, I was taken aback to see the UNF men’s basketball team featured on the website’s homepage.

Unfortunately, I quickly realized that the article, which centered around a 76-36 UNF loss to No. 25 Clemson, had little to do with any improvements UNF has made on the court. Rather than focusing on UNF’s attempt to keep up with Clemson Whelliston’s article had a much different objective: explaining the $80,000 paycheck UNF received to get crushed by Clemson. However, the author, Kyle Whelliston, did have a few words of praise to say about UNF’s effort.
